Port Bair, Mar 18: Ten-year-long suffering to get a regular tap water connection has come to an end for John Bhengra, a beneficiary of Jal Jeevan Mission. Mr. John Bhengra, a resident of Bimblitan Village under Gram Panchayat Sippighat, has appreciated the Directorate of RD, PRIs, and ULBs for their efforts to provide tap connection at his house wherein the struggle of ten members have been mitigated with the regular water supply.

For John and his family, the struggle to secure water for basic needs was never-ending. From getting water through the motor connection from nearby freshwater streams to hiring private tempos and getting heavy water tanks loaded with litres of water, John made every possible effort to secure the availability of water at all times. Now, with the regular tap water connection at his house, John no longer has to pay an excess electricity bill for motor connection, and further, he no longer has the worry of arranging private vehicles loaded with heavy water tanks to deliver water at his house. He also says that at times when he had no other option left, he and his family walked several kilometres to fetch water from the nearest well whenever there was a shortage of water for their basic needs.

John recalls the time of pandemic and lockdown last year as his real days of hardship, when securing even a few litres of drinking water had become an impossible task for him and his family, especially when the pandemic was at its peak and the entire state was under lockdown. He calls Jal Jeevan Mission indeed a blessing to him as he no longer faces the hardships to provide water for drinking and other basic needs to his family and he is thankful to the A & N Administration.
