Port Blair, Mar 16: A patient, with bandages on the lower part of the both legs with constant bleeding was spotted by many people at G B Pant Hospital since 14th March 2021. The patient was seen sitting on a same chair for more than 24 hours, in distress condition.

When the matter was highlighted in social media by some of the daily rated medical staffs, many responsible citizens, social workers came forward to help the patient.
Sub Inspector M Yusuf, Ms. Roopa Lall, Senior Journalist and Social Worker, Mr. Amar Singh, National Secretary, Hindu Rashtra Shakti, Mr. Rakeshwar Lall, President HRS, Mr. Diptendu Dasgupta, President Keshariya Hindi Vahini were some of the kind Islanders who reached the venue to help the patient.
On call, a team of Police also reached the venue to provide all help to the patient.
Dr Ashish Kumar Mandal, Director, ANIIMS and other doctors and staffs of G B Pant Hospital took good care of the patient, it is learnt.
Finally the patient was taken to dressing room and hundreds of maggots were reportedly removed from the infected part of the patient’s leg after which he was admitted in hospital.
On inquiry it is learnt that the patient had received similar treatment in many occasion in past at G B Pant but the patient, due to his mental status, leaves hospital without informing others, which leads to further spread of infection in his legs.
It is learnt that the patient, identified as Mr. Raja Rao, a resident of Dollygunj have no one in family except a sister, who could not be traced today.
Since last six months some staffs of G B Pant have been taking care of the patients in many ways by providing food and other assistance, it is reported.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha some of the responsible citizens who visited G B Pant Hospital today to meet the patients said that along with medical care the patients perhaps also require treatment for depression and finally a shelter for which the Department of Social Welfare must come forward.
Today some of the responsible citizens, names mentioned above, have helped in shifting of the patients and dressing, while some other have volunteered their names as attendant of the patient, which is required in medical admission form. Some people visited the patient in the evening too.
Earlier during lockdown Mr. Ration Rasheed from Haddo and Mr. M A Sajid, a social workers had helped this patients for his treatment.
For now the patient is in safe hands and looking at the kindness of Andaman people, Andaman Sheekha hopes that till his total recovery people will keep helping this patient and others like him.
