Port Blair, Mar 19: Since last one week, nearly 20 people in Rajiv Nagar area of Great Nicobar Islands have fallen sick and reached nearby Hospitals for treatment. Almost all the patients, mostly women and children, have similar symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting and fever.

Now the Health Officials in Great Nicobar are suspecting infection through water and hence water samples from Rajiv Nagar water treatment plant and APWD’s main water treatment plant of Great Nicobar have been sent to Deputy Director Health Dr. Abhijit Ray at Port Blair today by helicopter for testing.
It is learnt that it will take atleast two days to get the final result of the water samples. Meanwhile, people of the region have been advised by the Health Department to drink boiled water and maintain hygiene. Health Department might also check whether such symptoms are caused by Rotavirus, if the water samples do not yield any results, sources said.
