Port Blair, Mar 16: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands wrote to the Hon. Minister of Education, Govt. of India Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal to grant reservation to the law graduates of Andaman & Nicobar Islands in the National Law Universities of India for pursuing LLM Courses.

Mr. Sharma mentioned that since the first batch of Andaman Law College students will become Law graduates in the current academic year 2021, many of them will aspire to pursue LLM. Since, Andaman Law College imparts only B.A., LL.B. degree course, the passing out Law Graduates of the Islands for admission in LLM Courses will have to qualify as candidates belonging to General Category under Central Government All India Quota in the All India centralized examination namely ‘Common-Law Admission Test for Post Graduate i.e. CLAT PG’, that allows the LLB students to get admission into various Post Graduate (PG) courses offered at the 21 National Law Universities in India for the LLM course.

Securing seat for LLM Courses in colleges at Mainland particularly in the National Law Universities is obviously a tough proposition for the Islands’ Law Graduates in view of the fact that the Andaman Law college which started functioning since 01.10.2016 is in its nascent stage of development and is just beginning to display signs of future potential with passing out it’s first batch Law graduates this year.

Further, Mr. Sharma in his letter wrote that the National Law Universities (NLUs) have granted reservation of seats for the students belonging to various categories for pursuing LLM courses who are socially, economically, physically and educationally deprived / backward.
