Port Blair, March 16: Cochin Shipyard Limited is all set to handover 500 passenger and the 150-ton cargo carrying capacity vessel ‘MV Sindhu’ to the Andaman and Nicobar Administration.

Insiders in the Directorate of Shipping Services informed Andaman Daily News that CSL has also requested the Director of Shipping Services to depute authorized staffs for taking over the ship. Although final date of handing over is still not clear but it is reported that CSL has suggested 25 March date.
The induction of ‘MV Sindhu’ will bring a big relief for the people of Nicobar District, who are struggling for years due to the low frequency of vessels.
MV Sindhu is also said to replace MV Nancowry as it’s a Foreign Going registered vessel and also can occupy the spare staff in the absence of MV Nancowry, it is believed.
However, it is still not clear that how long it will take to finally get Safe Manning Documents of the ship MV Sindhu as in case of MV Campbell Bay, it took nearly one year to get Safe Manning Documents, without which even after handing over the ship can’t sail with passengers.
